Dr Kim Wallmach was appointed Head of the Wits Language School in June 2014. She is a Wits alumnus, having obtained her BA (majoring in French and German) in 1988, her MA (Translation Studies) in 1990, followed by her PhD in 1999. She was a lecturer in translation and interpreting for the Department of Linguistics at the University of South Africa from January 1993 - June 2009. She then re-joined the University of the Witwatersrand to establish a professional continuing education training stream in interpreting studies which would lead to an Honours/Masters in Interpreting.
Kim has twenty years’ experience in tertiary education and online/blended learning and serves on several editorial boards of academic journals. Her areas of interest are multilingualism and nation-building, interpreting theory and corpus-based interpreting/translation studies.
