Kim Wallmach

Thandiwe Nxumalo – Acting Head of Translation and Interpreting Unit

Thandiwe derives her research interest in contemporary African language discourse and communication through different platforms – interpreting, translating and teaching. She obtained her B.A. Ed and B.Ed in 1987 and 1988 respectively at the University of Witwatersrand, majoring in Drama and Film and Education. In 1990 she obtained an MA in translation in English and Zulu. She has worked as a lecturer in the Department of African Languages and Literatures at Wits from 1993 – 1999 and has written and published books in second language teaching. Thandiwe has worked extensively as a freelance conference interpreter and translator. Before joining Wits Language School, she worked as a social media and children’s television series specialist. She is completing her Masters in Public Health with a focus on social behaviour change communication.
Lazelle Burgess

Lazelle Burgess – Project Manager T&I Services (WITStranslate)

Lazelle completed an Honours degree in Translation Studies at Wits University and has been working as a Project Manager WITStranslate for the past three years. Lazelle also obtained an MA (Français Langue Etrangère) from the University of Paul Valéry III, in Montpellier in 1996 which has equipped her to teach French as a foreign language. She has taught French at university level and also served as an examiner for the DELF and DALF examinations for the Alliance Française in Durban.
Eugene Mathey

Eugene Mathey – T&I Facilitator

Eugene is a professional conference interpreter with a BA (Honours) in Applied Linguistics from North-West University and more than five years’ professional educational interpreting and freelance conference interpreting experience. He is accredited for English-Afrikaans conference interpreting with the South African Translators’ Institute (SATI). Eugene provides project management assistance for the organisation of disciplinary hearings, council meetings and other interpreting services at municipal level in all South African languages including South African Sign Language.
Anne Rametsi

Anne Rametsi – T&I Facilitator

Anne is a Translator and Interpreter as well as a Lecturer in Translation (English into French) in the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies in the School of Literature and Language Studies at Wits. She obtained an MA in English Civilisation from the University of Nantes in 2002 as well as a postgraduate Diploma in the Field of Translation and Interpreting from Wits. She has taught French in England and South Africa in private schools and Wits Language School. She worked at Wits Language School as manager of WLS Translation Agency, Course Administrator and Facilitator. She has a special interest in translation and technology, subtitling and CAT tools.
